Why I built a network instead of another personal brand
Followers don't close rounds. Rooms do. The thesis behind Adverds Network — and why the tech company, the fitness brand, and the MayDougie app had to sit next to it.
The costume problem
Most "entrepreneur" sites are freelancer portfolios with better lighting. I could have stayed there: take projects, post code, sell hours. It scales to a calendar, not a company.
I wanted a face people recognize, and vehicles underneath that make money when the camera is off. For me that stack is four companies: Adverds Network, Dougie Labs, the May Dougie fitness brand, and the MayDougie app.
"If an introduction does not change someone's quarter, it does not belong in the room."
Why a network, not a newsletter
I co-founded Adverds Network and run it as CEO. The product is not "community." It is a filtered room plus follow-up. Founders, brands, and operators sit down with a brief. Dougie Labs built the software so intros do not die in a group chat.
That is the front door. Everything else has to survive the same standard:
- Dougie Labs — my tech company. We ship the app and sit inside startups as operators, not vendors.
- May Dougie — the fitness brand. Apparel, protein, electrolytes. What I actually wear and take.
- MayDougie — the training app. My programs, productized. 45 minutes, no filler volume.
What changed when the P&L was real
The moment Adverds had a roster and a number to hit, the personal brand stopped being a performance. Training became a KPI. Product quality became a KPI. Who gets a seat became a KPI.
- Rooms dropped from 80 people to 12
- Startups in the network started getting capital, not compliments
- Fans could buy the same kit instead of asking for a merch drop
- The app crossed the point where I was no longer the only person using it
What I will not do
I will not take freelance UI gigs to "stay sharp." The companies are the work. If you want a landing page, hire someone else. If you want distribution, product, a training system, or a seat — that is this site.
- No open mixers
- No white-label gym plan with my face on it
- No tech vendor who disappears after sprint five
The standard is the same in the gym and in the room. That is the whole brand.
If you are still here
Shop the brand. Download the app. Send a real brief for the network. Or keep scrolling the journal — I write like I operate: short, numbered, no costume.
The next chapter is more rooms, more product inside Dougie Labs, and a fitness line that can outgrow the founder without losing the standard.
If this was useful, send it to an operator who is still selling hours. Then get in touch.
